| Just imagine if you designed a chair and it sold for over 22 million and went into the history books as the most expensive piece of design in the world! Well that is what happened to Irish designer Eileen Gray. 23 years after she has died and over 90 years since it was designed. It was in the collection of Yves Saint Laurent which is currently being sold in Paris. (Photo courtesy of the Irish Independent) The National Museum had the foresight to purchase her private collection of papers and furniture from her apartment in Paris. They are now on permanent exhibition in in the Museum. Gray died at the age of 98 yet many of her designs would not look out of place in this contemporary age. If you might like to follow in her footsteps and learn furniture design or study design there are many colleges around the country that run design courses, below is a list while not exhaustive, will help you get started.
